Thank author of this post/comment

Water is a very important resource. I guess there's really no need to explain why this is true. But the scary truth is that only less than 5% of the planet's water supply are actually consumable by people. Much of this water is composed of seawater, while the rest is all locked up in the glaciers found in the north and south poles.

With this world's human population rising exponentially, it becomes a wonder how we will all be able to survive with what is left of the water here. Overpopulation, especially in urban areas, have already raised the alarm for finding ways in order to improve water adequacy, with some cities even trying to control the delivery of water during certain periods of water shortage.

The city of Santo Domingo in the Dominican Republic is no exception. As of today, it has a population of 3 million, with a lot of them having a hard time getting 24/7 access to water. But in the next 50 years, it is expected that the population of the city will nearly double to more than 5 million. So that begs the question: where will the water come from?

That is the job of Santo Domingo's Aqueducts Agency, which recently called on for the population to conserve water, in a measure that they will employ in order to sustain water delivery in the city for the years to come. In its press release, the Agency said that rapid population expansion is causing a water shortage in the Distrito Nacional area, which includes greater Santo Domingo. If conservation among the locals does not take place, then the city might face some serious water shortage in the coming years.

Now that is something that we do not want to happen. If you can, do conserve as much water as possible. We can be short on food anytime, but we can never survive without drinking water. Think about the future generations and the kind of life they will be living when there is not much water around.
