With its long coast line, the Dominican Republic is host to a great number of beaches that remain to be discovered by most tourists. There are a lot of beaches that you can visit all throughout the country, and it depends on you to decide which beach destinations you prefer.

One of the most up-and-coming destinations there is is Bayahibe, one of the easternmost beach areas in the region, located about 10 miles east of La Romana. It was founded in 1874 by immigrants from Puerto Rico as a fishing village, but now it is starting to turn around and become a destination for tourists.

The most popular beach here is the Bayahibe Beach, a public resort, which serves as the embarkation point for various boat tours operated in the area; in particular, the Saona Island. Various beaches can be found in this island, which is located within one of the country's national parks.

But you don't have to frolic in the beach all day long, because there are a bunch of other activities that are widely practiced here, the most popular of which is scuba diving. There are over 20 official scuba diving spots scattered all throughout the surrounding seas, with more than 10 scuba diving shops that you could check out for equipment. Aside from the natural wonders that you can find under the sea, there are also 3 ship wrecks that make a good object of exploration for the seasoned scuba divers. For starters, there's also a lot to learn about jumpstarting your scuba diving experience here.

There's so much to see in the Dominican Republic that sometimes it becomes difficult to find out which is the best. I won't guarantee you that Bayahibe is the best place to be in, but for those interested in scuba diving plus a lot more, a trip to this place won't be wasted.
