The Dominican Republic is all set and ready to join the finals of the FIVB Women's World Championship, which will be held this coming October 29-November 14 in Tokyo, Japan. The Central American country will participate with 23 others from five continents in order to determine the best women's volleyball team in the world.

The country's volleyball federations will send their national teams to Tokyo to take part in the preliminary round, which will start on October 29 and end on November 3. In the preliminary round, the 24 teams will be divided into four sets of six teams, of which the top 4 will proceed to the second. The final round and classification matches that will determine the rank of the participating teams will end on November 14.

Pool A will feature the national teams from Peru, Serbia, Japan, Poland, Algeria, and Costa Rica. Pool B will be joined by teams like Brazil, Italy, the Netherlands, Puerto Rico, Czech Republic, and Kenya. Meanwhile, Pool C will be composed of teams from the United States, Cuba, Germany, Thailand, Croatia, and Kazakhstan. Finally, the national team of the Dominican Republic will be in Group D with defending champions Russia, China, South Korea, Turkey and Canada.

Matches will be then played in five Japanese cities (Tokyo, Matsumoto, Hamamatsu, Nagoya and Osaka) in a round-robin fashion. The second round, meanwhile, will see the top 16 teams getting divided into two teams of 8, from which the top 4 will off in the final round to determine the world champion in women's indoor volleyball.

Russia has been historically the most successful team in the World Championships with 6 titles (of which 5 were received under the name of the Soviet Union) while Japan and Cuba follow with 3 titles each.

Now let us hope that the national team of the Dominican Republic pulls off even just a decent placing here.
